UFC 110: Wednesday in Sydney

For the first time since I have been here, I looked out the window at 7am and saw the sun peeking through for a beautiful sunrise. I had no idea at the time what the day had in store for me, and with no plans set I headed down to breakfast to meet my dining buddy, Aaron Riley. Same omlette, same half a bagel, and same bowl of oatmeal to start my day before heading back upstairs to get my blog finished. That out of the way, I grabbed a quick workout and then started reaching out to see where people were.

Ryan Bader, CB Dollaway, and Cain Velasquez were training in the workout room. It was media day so there were a ton of photographers and videographers in the room next to us shooting Nogueira and Crocop training. It was a lot less busy in the second workout room where we were. I shot back and forth between the three guys training and then went upstairs to grab a shower.

I met Ryan, CB, Jesse Forbes, and Todd Lally in the lobby and we jumped on the 333 (The Bondi Bendy) out to the beach for my second time of the trip. CB and Jesse are planning to stay there a few days after the fights so they wanted to check it out for a bit. I had enjoyed my time there on Monday so was only happy to take them out there and play tour guide.

We were pretty hungry after we got off the 30 minute bus ride so we grabbed lunch right on the beach; a quick chicken sandwich to satisfy our hunger. The area was quite a bit busier than it had been on monday when I was there and Goran Reljic and his coach walked by and I jumped up to grab a photo. Ryan and CB started giving me shit; teasing me and calling me traitor, lol. We threw our stuff in a locker and as we were doing so, I heard a quick, "Hello, Tracy Lee" as Michael Bisping whisked by into the mens locker room. Geez, the beach was busy with fighters!!

We walked down the beach and enjoyed the moderate temperatures as well as the sea breeze and the site and sounds of the european style beach. The water was pretty cold so the guys didn't really venture into it; we made our way to the north end of the beach to explore the tide pools. The tide was coming in so the water was much higher than it was on Monday. We didn't have too much time to explore without getting stuck climbing to the top of the rocks to leave.

Turns out it didn't matter as we ended up scrambling up and over all the rocks along the ocean; exploring the nooks and crevices all the while trying to maintain balance in my flipflops. Thankfully we had layered up on the sunscreen before heading out on the rocks because I'm sure we would have been mimicking lobsters had we not. Jesse decided to climb to the top of this huge pile of rocks and due to their impending fights, Bader and CB decided to to spectate and sit this one out. I was wishing I didn't have flip flops and a bikini on as well as a camera in my hand or else I would have probably joined him in his climb.

We turned and headed back to the main part of the beach as the tide was getting higher and higher. It was still pretty bright out as we went in search of Todd who had not adventured along with us. We found him by the lockers where we grabbed our stuff and headed back towards the street to catch the buses. Along the way we stopped in stores to do some souvenir shopping.

We happened upon a skate park that had a huge skate session going on with a bunch of what seemed like pro riders. They were doing airs out of the pool located next to the street course on the beach. I used to shoot skateboarding so jumped right in to take a few photos; but the guys attention was fading fast and I could see it was time to head back to the hotel. We jumped on the 333 and thirty minutes later we were back at the hotel.

As usual on these trips, time was rather limited so I ran up to my room to shower and then got ready for the evening. I met Jesse, Ryan, and CB downstairs about 15 minutes later and we jumped into a cab to Darling Harbour for dinner.

Darling Harbour was absolutely humming with activity when we stepped out of the cab. The guys had a specific restaurant in mind for dinner called The Meat and Wine Company. Jesse had tried Kangaroo steak there the day before, and I was definitely game to expiriment as well! Unfortunately, the place was insanely packed and we couldn't even get a table. Bader made reservations for Saturday night after weigh ins for dinner, and then we continued on down the dock in search of a place to eat.

We ended up at Criniti's, an Italian spot on the upper level over looking the harbour and enjoyed a nice meal in the weather that had been so amazing so far that day. I had brought a jacket out with me but I never ended up needing it. I noticed that the menu in a number of the places we had been thus far had "gluten free" options and this restaurant was no different. They seem extremely health conscious out here, but not into fitness neccessarily. We finished our meal and our conversation and made our way back to the hotel.

The guys said good night as they headed upstairs to get some rest. I wasn't ready to call it a night so it was lucky for me that Mayhem walked into the lobby right then. He was joined by Rampage and a few others that were heading out for the night. I jumped on the bandwagon and we were whisked away to a club in Kings Cross. We hopped to a second one shortly after; walking through the streets, seeing the sites (including a guy singing along with a talking deer head).. Around 2am, I was ready to call it a night and hopped in a cab back to the hotel.

Whew!! Another fun day; I was exhausted and fell right to sleep!
